Energy Conservation Initiative

Through its Energy Conservation Initiative (ECI), Seedco Financial offers below-market loans and technical assistance to developers, building owners, and small business contractors who can demonstrate financing needs for projects that will yield significant reductions in energy usage. These projects may include development, renovation, or retrofitting of residential, commercial, or industrial facilities to meet with EnergyStar™ and/or LEED™ standards.

A pilot program in Alabama laid the foundation for our national Energy Conservation Initiative. ECI has since evolved into a multi-site, multi-faceted program that exemplifies Seedco Financial’s “triple bottom line” approach of advancing social equity, economic opportunity, and environmental sustainability in the communities we serve.

ECI encompasses three financing programs:

• The Commercial and Nonprofit Community Facilities loan program offers below-market loans and technical assistance in support of EnergyStar- or LEED- compliant retrofits of existing not-for-profit community facilities and office buildings in targeted underserved areas.
• The Industrial Facilities loan program offers below-market loans to finance equipment retrofits and other upgrades to improve the energy efficiency of New York City-based light manufacturing facilities.
• The Green Affordable Housing program offers below-market loans and technical assistance to developers to incorporate green building standards into the construction or renovation of single- or multi-family affordable housing projects.

Seedco Financial partners with local experts and organizations engaged in conservation-related activities, including consulting and engineering firms, to provide technical assistance and ancillary services to its borrowers. Examples include low-cost energy audits, support in applying for government subsidies, design reviews, and EnergyStar or LEED scoring and certification procedures.
